Welcome to GenPrompt Extension ("we," "our," or "the Extension"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our browser extension for Chrome. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.

We want to be clear about what we do not collect:

• Personal Information: We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any personally identifiable information
• Browsing History: We do not track which websites you visit
• AI Conversations: We do not store your conversations with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or other AI platforms
• API Keys: Your API keys are stored locally in your browser and never transmitted to our servers
• Usage Analytics: We do not collect analytics or track how you use the extension
• Cookies: We do not use cookies or tracking technologies

3. How the Extension Works

GenPrompt Extension operates entirely within your browser:

• Local Storage: Your authentication credentials and preferences are stored locally in Chrome's storage
• API Communication: When you authenticate with GenPrompt, the extension communicates directly with our API at gen-prompt.me
• AI Platform Integration: The extension detects AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) and inserts your selected prompts into the text input fields
• No Third-Party Tracking: We do not embed third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts

4. Data Storage

4.1 Local Storage (In Your Browser)

• Authentication Token: JWT token to maintain your logged-in session
• API Key: If you choose API key authentication, it's stored locally
• Saved Prompts: Cached copy of your prompts for offline access
• User Preferences: Settings like default category filters

This data is stored using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API and never leaves your device.

4.2 Server-Side Storage (gen-prompt.me)

When you create an account on GenPrompt's main platform:

• Account Information: Email and encrypted password (if using email/password login)
• Prompts You Create: Prompts you save to your GenPrompt library
• Usage Logs: Basic server logs for security and debugging (IP addresses, timestamps)

This data is governed by the GenPrompt main privacy policy.

5. Permissions Explained

The extension requires certain Chrome permissions to function. Here's why:

• activeTab: To detect which AI platform you're using and insert prompts into the page
• storage: To save your authentication token and preferences locally
• contextMenus: To provide right-click menu options for saving and refining prompts
• scripting: To inject prompt text into AI platform input fields
• Host permissions (chatgpt.com, claude.ai, etc.): To interact with specific AI platforms you use

We only access pages when you explicitly use the extension's features.

6. Third-Party Services

GenPrompt Extension interacts with:

• GenPrompt API (gen-prompt.me): Our own service for authentication and prompt management
• AI Platforms: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, etc. - we only insert text into their input fields; we do not transmit data to these platforms on your behalf

These third-party platforms have their own privacy policies that govern how they handle your data.

7. Data Security

We take security seriously:

• HTTPS Only: All communication with our API uses encrypted HTTPS connections
• JWT Tokens: Authentication uses industry-standard JSON Web Tokens with expiration
• No Password Storage: Passwords are encrypted before storage on our servers
• Local Data Protection: Data stored in Chrome's local storage is protected by Chrome's security model

8. Children's Privacy

GenPrompt Extension is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with information, please contact us.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

• Delete Your Data: Delete your account and all associated data
• Revoke Access: Log out from the extension to remove local authentication data
• Uninstall: Remove the extension at any time, which deletes all local data
